Capacity vs Demand

The marketing question this page answers: when scheduled capacity outruns demand, buy more demand; when demand outruns capacity, more marketing buys backlog, not revenue. Everything here is demand pressure vs scheduled capacity — not true utilization (see the fix below).

Ten weeks of pressure

weekly · scheduled shift hours vs hours booked against them

When the orange bar tops the blue one, appointment demand ran past the shift hours entered in ServiceTitan. Part of that gap is real pressure — and part is 25 techs working without a shift record, which shrinks the blue bar. Faded bars are the two weeks ahead: shifts already scheduled, demand still arriving.

Where the pressure is

by business unit · last 14 vs next 14 days · click a unit for detail

The signal chip reads the next 14 days only: open hours mean room for marketing to fill; booked past scheduled means more spend buys a wait-list.

UTILITIES BU is a known outlier — its jobs are largely credited to techs homed in other BUs, so almost no scheduled hours land there while booked hours pile up.

Busiest techs, last 30 days

top 15 by booked-against hours · click a tech for their jobs

Ratios above 1 mostly mean missing shift records, not superhuman techs: a tech who ran appointments on days with no shift entered shows demand with little scheduled time under it.

Make this page trustworthy

One fix: enter shifts in ServiceTitan for every working tech. Last full week, 60 techs ran appointments but only 35 had shifts entered — 25 techs are missing them. Their booked hours show up with no scheduled hours underneath, which is why "demand ÷ scheduled hours" runs 120–200% in places where true utilization can't. Until shifts are complete, this page measures pressure, not utilization.

Two smaller distortions to keep in mind: overlapping appointments inflate booked hours by roughly 22% (a tech double-booked 9–11am counts 4 hours, not 2), and multi-tech appointments credit the full duration to every tech assigned. Both push the orange bars up; neither is demand you can sell against twice.

Definitions. Scheduled hours = Normal technician shifts only; OnCall and TimeOff are excluded. Booked-against hours = appointment durations credited to assigned techs — not deduplicated for overlaps or multi-tech assignments. The ratio shown is demand ÷ scheduled hours, never "utilization".

Windows. Weekly chart: 8 full weeks back plus 2 scheduled weeks forward. Tables: fixed last-14 / next-14-day and last-30-day windows — no toggle applies.

Drill-down. Business-unit rows and tech rows open a detail panel with per-tech pressure and the last 90 days of jobs; job, customer and invoice links in the panel open the record in ServiceTitan in a new tab.
